03/02/2010 - Chicago, IL (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - United States coach Bob Bradley named ex-Czech international Lubos Kubik an assistant coach for the national team Tuesday.
Kubik's 20-year playing career included stints in Italy, France and Germany, and a four-year spell in Major League Soccer. He played 56 matches for his national team, appearing in the 1990 World Cup and 1996 Euro championships. Kubik also spent time as a coach in England, Poland and the Czech Republic.
"Lubos brings a tremendous amount of experience at both the professional and international level," Bradley said. "We have worked together in the past, and I have a lot of respect for him as a player, a coach, and a person.
"His understanding of the game will be an important asset for our team."
Kubik has been involved with the U.S. in the past, serving as Peter Nowak's top assistant with the U.S. men's Olympic team in 2008. In 1998, he played for Bradley when he coached Chicago Fire. Kubik earned MLS Defender of the Year, and helped the Fire win the MLS Cup and U.S. Open Cup.
"I am very happy to be back working with U.S. Soccer, especially after my experience with the Olympic Team," Kubik said. "I'm very excited about the opportunity. I believe that the U.S. team has a great future."
The U.S. plays the third-ranked Netherlands on Wednesday. The U.S. was been drawn into Group C with England, Slovenia and Algeria for the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa in June.
